Shillong-Dawki road: Probe ordered into rockslide deaths

Shillong, April 27: An inquiry has been ordered into the death of two persons in an incident of rockslide on the under-construction Shillong Dawki road project.

Informing this on Monday, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, said, “I am very happy that the government has asked the SDO to inquire into those incidents.”

“Whatever happened is very unfortunate… SDO of Pynursla had already issued time and again prohibition and restrictions (to commuters on the road)…,” said Rymbui, who also represents Amlarem constituency.

Calling for caution, he said, “Let us hope all implementing agencies and the government should also take note that these types of things should not happen while implementing any other projects in the state.”

Meanwhile, the minister expressed satisfaction over the measures taken for speeding up the remaining work on the crucial highway.

Referring to mitigation work on the highway, the minister said he mentioned that the hillocks at Mawlieh were dismantled to as part of the exercise.
