Shillong, Oct 28: The story of former Lok Sabha Speaker and NPP founder PA Sangma will soon hit the silver screen as Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday announced the movie to be made on his late father.
Without giving much spoiler, the incumbent National People’s Party (NPP) chief said the movie would trace the National People’s Party (NPP) journey from being born under special circumstances to giving a collective voice to the Northeast.
“Late PA Sangma had been working on this principle since 2000. I shouldn’t be sharing this in detail because you will see it when it comes out… shooting is going to start anytime soon,” he said.
Speaking about a teacher infusing the thought in young PA Sangma about building an identity of North East, he said, “I was going through the script and it spoke about one professor… I think Sharma or something, who taught my father political science in St. Anthony’s College in Shillong.”
“It was that man who spoke about Northeast identity and that is how he was exposed to this idea. Those principles that he learned during his St. Anthony’s College days transformed into what we are today as a party,” he said.
Explaining the NPP’s core philosophy, he said, “It has been a party that has very much focused on keeping the identity and issues of the people of the Northeast, minorities, tribals as well as indigenous people and all marginalised groups, who did not have a platform.”
“There were regional voices for different communities but there was no party providing that voice required for the region as a whole, for a community as a whole. That is what the party has been doing for many years and this was the principle on which the party was formed,” Conrad said.
“That’s the background in which things have happened and we will continue to move forward,” he added.
