Shillong, March 24: Even as the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has decided to filed its candidate for the upcoming Shillong parliamentary bye-election, it is not yet decided if the candidate will be common for all the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) partners.
“… it is up to our partners or the individual political party whether they are joining us or not — we are yet to discuss anything on that. Let us see…what is in their mind,” Deputy Chief Minister and state party president Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.
“Right now the decision is being taken by the NPP…We are going to field our candidate,” he told reporters while declining to name any aspirant for the ticket or timeline for announcing the NPP nominee.
On the possibility of an alliance with BJP, Tynsong remained non-committal.
The bye-election was necessitated following the sudden demise of VPP Shillong MP late Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon on February 19.
