Shillong, June 20: Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Timothy D Shira has encouraged farmers to market their perishable produce directly to processing units instead of depending solely on outside traders.
Addressing an event marking release of 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme, Shira also urged the farmers to work closely with both state and central agencies for the overall development of agriculture in Meghalaya.
“Marginal farmers continue to face several challenges, and the Government of India has launched various initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural production and farmers’ income,” he said on Saturday.
Over 170 farmers took part in the PM-KISAN livestreaming event at ICAR Research Complex, Umiam. Over 9.4 lakh farmers in North Eastern region are expected to benefit under PM-KISAN.
