Shillong, Sept 18: Health minister and Jowai MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla on Wednesday said 70 percent of the work on Iawmusiang shopping complex in Jowai has been completed and the deadline for completion of work has been set at 24 months.
Sanctioned at Rs 25 crore, the new complex is set to have 320 stalls.
The minister inspected the shopping complex along with JHADC executive member and in charge of market Seiborlang Shadap and the office bearers of Jaiñtia Tribal Traders Association (JTTA).

Following the inspection, a short meeting was held where Shylla informed that the completion of the complex was one of his main promises during the 2018 elections as the project was pending for decades.
Assistant Executive Engineer of PWD (Building) Wanker Slong informed that as per JHADC records, there are 700 stall permits issued for the two council markets in Jowai.
Meanwhile, JTTA president, I. Najiar urged the government to accommodate all 600 stalls that were running their business at the old Iawmusiang market to avoid any untoward incident.
Shylla urged the stall owners to solve the issue amicably between the JHADC.
