Simultaneous polls to reduce expenses: Hek

Shillong, Apr 2: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek has expressed his support to the One Nation, One Election (ONOE) policy being propagated by the BJP-led NDA government.

“One nation, one election is the best policy. That is my personal observation,” Hek told reporters on Wednesday.

He pointed out that simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies would to a great extent minimise the election expenditures.

Besides, he said, the model code of conduct imposed for holding of multiple elections often hampers development activities taken up by the government.

“Who will be the ultimate loser, it is the citizens of the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said BJP is the only party, which does not work only during elections.

“BJP works for the people throughout the year whether there is election or no election,” he said.

To a query if BJP will contest the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections next year, he said, “What for we are a political party if we are not contesting elections.”
