Tura, April 17: Two sirens have been installed at the Ganol river dam site and the power house to alert the public ahead of any possible release of water from the dam,  in the eventuality of heavy rains, informed Executive Engineer (C) of Ganol Civil Division-1 on Thursday.

The 16 kms radius range Siren and the 5 kms radius range Siren have been installed at the Power House (Edenbari) and at the Dam (Chibragre) respectively to alert the people whenever the Dam gates are opened, stated MePGCL.

An order from the power department stated that officials of MePGCL have given several awareness programmes and announcements through loud speakers to the villagers residing downstream of the Ganol River.

The whatsapp group jointly with the Department officials and the villagers downstream has also been started last year in order to inform everyone about the release of water from the Dam.

According to officials, since the monsoon is fast approaching the excess water from the Ganol Hydro Dam may be needed to be released at any time whenever the heavy rainfall occurs at the Dam Catchment area.

The excess water above the danger level of the Dam has to be released for the overall safety of the Dam and its structures and also to safeguard the Electrical and Electronic Equipment that are installed at the Dam.

The general public have been urged not to venture near the Ganol River banks as there might be sudden rise of the river water level during the evacuation of Flood Water from the Dam reservoir. However, all efforts will be made to regulate the release of Dam Water to the minimum, informed power officials.
