Shillong, Jul 15: In a significant push for extension and promotion of renewable energy, installation of solar power systems by Meghalaya New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) is under way across 63 BharatNet sites in the state.
Solarisation has been taken up in 22 government lower primary (LP) schools, while installation has commenced at selected sites among the remaining locations, including 8 secondary schools, 4 ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) centres, and 29 community halls.

These efforts aim to provide sustainable and reliable power supply for BharatNet infrastructure, thereby enhancing digital connectivity and clean energy adoption in rural areas.
Meanwhile, solarisation of LP schools under CM Solar Mission has also begun in East Garo Hills where 125 schools (comprising 72 schools with 1.1 kVA systems and 53 schools with 2.2 kVA systems) are being solarised using off-grid inverter systems.
In addition, the solarisation of LP schools under CM Solar Mission will begin in East Jaintia Hills where 123 schools (comprising 72 schools with 1.1 kVA systems and 51 schools with 2.2 kVA systems) will be solarised using off-grid inverter systems.
Work will also commence for household electrification under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in East Khasi Hills (Mylliem Block) where solar hybrid inverter systems are being installed for 492 beneficiaries, including 352 systems of 0.85 kVA and 140 systems of 1.7 kVA.

Further, installation will be undertaken for 354 beneficiaries, with 253 systems of 0.85 kVA and 101 systems of 1.7 kVA in North and East Garo Hills.
