Speaker moves Union Minister for release of students’ scholarships

Shillong, Aug 21: Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram in New Delhi on Friday and submitted a detailed project report (DPR) for the second phase of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building.

During the meeting, Sangma also raised the issue of the pending central share of scholarships for tribal students of Meghalaya and requested the Union Minister to facilitate its early release.

He further requested that the pending amount be released in a single instalment instead of multiple instalments, stating that this would avoid uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students awaiting assistance.

The Speaker emphasised the need for timely disbursement of scholarship funds to ensure that tribal students do not face difficulties in pursuing their education.

The meeting also discussed matters related to the development of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the educational welfare of tribal students in the state.
