Minister lauds CM, BJP high command for honouring ‘agreement’
Shillong, Sept 17: Newly inducted cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai has revealed that his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already had an agreement with the NPP led government for splitting the five-year term in half among the two BJP MLAs.
Shullai, the MLA from South Shillong, was on Wednesday allocated the charge of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Arts & Culture, Printing and Stationery, and Legal Metrology departments.
Speaking to reporters, Shullai hailed chief minister Conrad K Sangma and the BJP high command for honouring the agreement signed during formation of the MDA-2 government in 2023.
According to the agreement, BJP legislator AL Hek would serve as minister in the NPP-led MDA government for the first two-and-a-half years before and Shullai would take over in the remaining term.
Shullai also revealed that the agreement was signed in presence of former BJP state president Ernest Mawrie.
“The agreement has been honoured by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the party high command,” Shullai said.
Asked if he is happy with the departments allotted to him, Shullai said the allocation of portfolios was not his primary concern.
“For me, portfolio is not my concern. For me, if you give only fisheries also, I am happy,” he said while expressing his commitment to serving the people and utilising his tenure to benefit his constituency and the state.
