Shillong, May 31: The Meghalaya BJP has suggested the state government to requisition additional manpower and technological assistance from the Centre to trace the two missing tourists from Madhya Pradesh.
The missing of the tourist couple has raised concerns and the party feels the need to upgrade the state’s facilities in line with the digital advancements made by India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said a statement by Wankitbok Pohshna, the general secretary of Meghalaya BJP.
The state BJP also suggested all hotels, resorts, guest houses, homestays, service apartments and other businesses related to tourism, be registered with a government agency.

“This will ensure that tourists can register via their hotels, homestays etc., using a digital application or QR code,” it said.
The state BJP also suggested the registration be made mandatory as this allows the government to monitor everyone who enters the state.
This is important not only from a tourism point of view, but also from the perspective of the state’s security, Pohsna said.
“CCTV must be made mandatory at all hotels, guesthouses and such so the entry and exit of guests can be captured in real time,” he added.
Pohshna said in remote areas where mobile networks may not be fully developed, the state government must consider Wi-Fi or satellite-linked communication and networking services at police outposts and tourist information centres for seamless messaging and heightened monitoring.
Tourist information centres should be located near all tourist destinations so that no one is left unattended at any time, he added.
