Defence land for relocation
Shillong, Jan 21: The state BJP has sought the intervention of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for early relocation of the Dalit Sikh community from Them Iew Mawlong to the Cantonment area that needs clearance from the Defence Ministry.
The request was made by a state BJP delegation led by cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai, who represents Shillong Cantonment Board area, during its meeting with the Defence Minister in New Delhi.
Highlighting the sensitivity and significance of the matter, the delegation urged the Ministry to arrive at an early and amicable solution.
They also requested the Union Minister to ensure speedy implementation of the building bye-laws recently passed by the Cantonment Board and to expedite the renewal of policy in the Cantonment area.
Besides, the state BJP leaders sought early approval for defence land acquisition required for the smooth completion of the Shillong flyover project.
“The Union Defence Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that all the issues and grievances raised would be examined, and that he would take up the matters with the concerned authorities,” Shullai said.
