State-level workshop on mental health held at NEIGRIHMS


Shillong, Oct 11:
More than 600 nursing officers from across the state attended a workshop on ‘It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the workplace’, on World Mental Health Day at NEIGRIHMS.


Aimed at advocating positive mental health in the workplace, the workshop highlighted the importance of prioritizing, promoting and protecting mental health at the workplace.


Emphasising on the importance of teamwork at workplaces to ensure mental
wellbeing of all workers, Dr Nalin Mehta, director, NEIGRIHMS stressed on the need to recognize early signs of depression and psychological issues to provide timely interventions that could prevent untoward outcomes.


The director also touched upon the social stigma attached to mental illnesses even today and requested the participants to not only be sensitive to mental health issues but to also spread positive messages to help change this mindset. Dr Mehta also encourage people to not hesitate to seek help.


Meanwhile, Dr C Daniala, medical superintendent, talked about the need for support systems to be in place in all organisations to create an enabling work environment for everyone.


Interactive sessions including didactic lectures from the Department of Psychiatry and Continuing Nursing Education cell, the workshop was a grand success and inspired very active participation from all the delegates. Organised by the Department of Psychiatry and Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Cell NEIGRIHMS, the event hopes to raise awareness on mental health.
