Shillong, Feb 26: The Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation (MePGCL) has completed detailed project reports (DPRs) for 12 small hydro power projects (63 MW) and approved two self-identified projects (37.5 MW).
“The State will also get 12% free power and 1% LADF from both the projects,” Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh told the Assembly on Thursday.
He said the implementation agreement has already been signed and the state-owned Power Distribution Corporation Limited will sign a Power Purchase Agreement of 30% of the installed capacity with the developer.
“The government has also accorded approval to sign an implementation agreement for the development of another large hydro project with a private developer,” he added.
On the progress of the Riangdo Small Hydro Project, Lyngdoh said, “The project is under construction and as on date 48% of the physical progress has been achieved. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2028.”
The project, initially conceptualized as a 3 MW (3X1 MW) project, has been upgraded to 6 MW with an estimated completion cost of Rs. 68.32 crore.
“IIT Roorkee has submitted the DPR for the upgradation of the project from 3 MW to 6 MW… The design energy of the project also increased from 17 MU annually to 28 MU annually,” Lyngdoh said.
The government has allocated Rs 15 crore in the budget for the project’s expenses in the next financial year.
Lyngdoh also highlighted future prospects, including the completion of the Detailed Project Report for the 210 MW Myntdu Leshka Phase II project, expected to generate 591 MU of designed energy.
“The government will shortly finalize the financial linkage, including the option of Central Financial Assistance, to implement this project,” he added.
