Statue of Unity holds nation’s history: Conrad

Shillong, Nov 12: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has eulogised the iconic Statue of Unity, the memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, saying it holds the nation’s history.

“We all know that the Statue of Unity is not just a statue; it holds a great history, the nation’s history,” he said while addressing ‘Bharat Parv’ organised across the nation to celebrate India’s unity and diverse heritage on Wednesday.

“It is a symbol of the way Sardar Patel ji unified our country and the contribution he made,” he said.

The Chief Minister along with his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu visited the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat to take part in Bharat Parv, which also commemorates Sardar Patel’s 150th birth anniversary this year.

They paid homage to the ‘Iron Man’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel while touring the colossal monument and its premises, including the museum, which commemorates the life, vision, and contributions of Saradar Patel towards the nation.

Meanwhile, Sangma lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “I want to separately thank our Honourable Prime Minister ji, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and all organizing committee members for giving us this opportunity.”

He also issued a strong invitation to all citizens, urging them to experience the site’s marvel firsthand and visit the place at least once.

The Chief Minister took a special interest in the event, visiting the various stalls representing states from across the country. He also made dedicated stops at the stalls of Meghalaya Tourism and Meghalayan Age to encourage the state’s representatives.

He also actively engaged with the artisans and entrepreneurs at the craft mela and attended the food festival, where he enjoyed traditional Meghalayan cuisine being showcased to the national audience.
