Sub-Committee on GHADC meets, clarifies pay disbursement is temporary measure

Tura, Sept 12: A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council that took place at Tura Circuit House on Thursday morning discussed several issues aimed at restoring normalcy and getting the employees of the autonomous body back in service with Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal clarifying that the state government’s move to help the council with disbursement of salaries was nothing more than a temporary measure aimed at aiding the distraught employees who have not been paid for 44 months.

This (salary disbursement) is a temporary measure to help the council but this can happen only if the Council accepts it. For long term stability, reforms on finance and service rules are a must for the GHADC, said DC Agarwal. He added that the Meghalaya Government is ready to support the district council to ensure financial reforms take place in the interest of the employees with even a Principal Secretary rank official deputed to ensure workers are paid their dues on time.

The Sub- Committee on Thursday held its preliminary meet with the ruling side of the GHADC, in this case the EC headed by CEM Albinush Marak, and DC Agarwal has assured that in the ensuing meetings other MDCs, stakeholders, and even members of the striking workers under NGEA would be invited to partake in the discussions to ensure everyone is taken onboard to ensure stability of the GHADC.
