Support growing across Gambegre as people see development in NPP: Mehtab Chandee

Tura, Nov 8: NPP candidate Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma is confident people of Gambegre will choose development over rhetoric when they turnup at polling stations to cast their ballot in the by-election on November 13th. “Support for us is growing across Gambegre because people are witnessing the difference in our campaigning. We have never targeted any individual or party.

We are only presenting our good work done in Garo Hills and the rest of the state under the Conrad K Sangma government. We never make any empty promises or false hope,” says party candidate Mehtab Chandee A Sangma. To solidify the development claims, a string of political leaders, some of whom once happened to be foes but now turned allies, narrate their stories of positive changes to their constituencies after aligning with Conrad Sangma’s government.

One such story comes from the former Congress MLA of Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills, H N Shangpliang, who has since joined the NPP. He tells the Gambegre voters about the plight of the border villagers in his constituency for over 40 long years until the Conrad Sangma government came into being and cleared road projects for their benefit.

“Though he (Shangpliang) was an MLA from the opposition during my first term as chief minister, he narrated the plight of his people in the border belt where there was no road connectivity. There are over eight thousand garos living on the border without any basic amenities. We stepped in and ensured that the road was completed,” said the chief minister who was present at the election rally with his wife and party candidate.

Another MLA, Gabrial Wallang of the Congress representing Nongstoin constituency, who defected to the NPP in August, this year, was also in Gambegre for campaigning. “My people knew the need for development of Nongstoin and felt it was better to align with the NPP for progress.

Development is the core for transforming peoples’ lives and no party can do it better than the NPP under Conrad Sangma,” says Gabrial Wallang as he adds to the growing list of political leaders calling for a victory for the NPP in Gambegre on the plank of development.
