Synod College celebrates 61st Foundation Day

Shillong,  July 2: Synod College, Shillong, celebrated its 61st Foundation Day at the College Auditorium with dignity and academic significance on Wednesday.

Adelbert Nongrum, MLA, attended the event as the chief guest, and Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, Director, Arts and Culture Department was the guest of honour.

The celebration marked an important milestone in the journey of Synod College, which has completed sixty-one years of service in the field of higher education. The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s contribution to academic growth, character formation, social responsibility and service to the people of Meghalaya.

A major highlight of the programme was the release of two important academic books: Look South Policy vis-à-vis Meghalaya, edited by Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy and Dr. Ibalari Phylla Khongjoh, and Shadows of 1975: The Emergency and Meghalaya’s Journey as a Young State, edited by Dr. David Arnold Kharchandy.

The books were released by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour in the presence of the Principal, faculty members, students, invited guests and well-wishers of the College. The release of the two volumes added academic value to the Foundation Day celebration, reflecting the continued commitment of Synod College to research, publication and intellectual engagement with issues of regional, national and historical importance.

The programme also included felicitation of achievers, students’ scholarship awardees and teaching staff who completed 25 years of dedicated service to the College. The Chief Guest and Guest of Honour appreciated the contributions of Synod College and encouraged the institution to continue its mission of education and service.
