Tura, Oct 19: The 42nd Meghalaya State Table Tennis Championship came to a spectacular close on Saturday with thrilling finals that saw Tanushree Das Gupta and Suranjit Dey crowned the Women’s and Men’s Singles champions, respectively at the Indoor Sports Hall in Tura.

The four-day tournament, hosted for the fifth time by the Tura Table Tennis Association (TTTA) in collaboration with the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association (MTTA), showcased the state’s top talent and provided the platform for National Games selections and the National School Games.
Around 100 players from Nongstoin, Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Tura and Baghmara participated, representing the districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills. The tournament featured singles events under various categories.
The Women’s Singles Final was a gripping showdown between two accomplished paddlers. Tanushree Das Gupta was crowned the Women Singles Gold Winner, with Camelia Diengdoh taking silver, and Anweshwa Chaudhary took the bronze.
In the highly anticipated Men’s Singles Final, Shillong’s top-seeded Suranjit Dey successfully defended his state title, overcoming a strong challenge from Sandeep Kumar, who took the silver medal. Dey’s powerful forehand and composed play secured him the victory in a tightly contested final. Pritvi Dey took the broze medal in the championship.

The tournament’s emerging talents were formally acknowledged with special awards: Saachi Mizar (U-11 Girls Gold Winner) was named the Most Promising Girl Player, while Shivansh Pariyar (U-11 Boys Gold Winner) received the Most Promising Boy Player award, underscoring their potential for Meghalaya at the national level.
