Tata’s death marks end of an era: Conrad

Shillong, Oct 11: Chief minister Conrad Sangma expressed his deep sorrow and condolences at the demise of Tata Group’s chairman emeritus Ratan Naval Tata late Wednesday night.

Joining the nation in mourning of the death of the eminent businessman and philanthropist, the chief minister said, “His greatness and immense contributions to the country will always be remembered and cherished. His demise marks the end of an era.”

Referring to Meghalaya’s connection with Ratan Tata, he said, “Back in 2018, Meghalaya partnered with Tata Trusts for the Meghalaya Baby League, which was the first of its kind, aimed at identifying football talent at a young age.”

According to the chief minister, Tata too had shared his vision saying, “Today, on Children’s Day, the Tata Trusts celebrate the young stars of the Meghalaya Baby League. This league grooms the little Messis, Ronaldos, and Sunil Chhetris of tomorrow. I hope this will help raise the standards of Indian football and the spirits of the little ones!”

The League was held for two years before it was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“His words continue to inspire us all as we work towards uplifting our children and youth and creating opportunities for them to shine,” the chief minister said in a letter addressed to Tata Sons and Tata Group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
“May Shri Ratan ji’s work, nobility, kindness, wisdom, and contributions serve as a guide and inspiration for generations to come, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
