Tezpur University figured at 35th in THE- Interdisciplinary Science Rankings

Guwahati, Nov 28: Tezpur University has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 35th position among Indian universities in the inaugural Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (THE-ISR) 2025.

This achievement highlights the university’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary science research and education, making it the only institution from Northeast India to be featured in the rankings.

The THE-ISR evaluates universities worldwide for their contributions to and emphasis on interdisciplinary science, which integrates multiple academic disciplines to address complex global challenges.

This first-of-its-kind ranking assessed 749 institutions from 92 countries/territories, based on 11 performance indicators, including, research expenditure in interdisciplinary fields, success rates and impact of interdisciplinary research, availability of facilities and administrative support and promotional policies to encourage interdisciplinary initiatives.

The methodology involved analyzing 157 million citations, 18 million research publications, and feedback from over 20,000 scholars globally.

The ranking places Tezpur University among the prominent institutions in interdisciplinary science, boosting its visibility and academic reputation.

The recognition underscores the university’s alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary education and research.

D.C. Baruah, Director of the Centre of Multidisciplinary Research, noted that the global recognition would further strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary research culture.

Leadership Support: Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh congratulated the university community and assured continued support to researchers. He emphasized that such achievements would inspire greater excellence in the future.

The focus on interdisciplinary science reflects a growing global trend in higher education and research, recognizing its potential to address pressing issues such as climate change, public health, and sustainable development. Rankings like THE-ISR highlight institutions that are leading this transformation.

Tezpur University’s achievement showcases the rising prominence of Northeast India in contributing to cutting-edge, interdisciplinary solutions, setting a benchmark for other institutions in the region.
