Three convicted in 2017 POCSO case

Shillong, Aug 28: The Ri Bhoi District Special Judge (POCSO) Court has convicted three men for sexually assaulting three minors  in 2017.

The accused, Mawri Ksing, Sbishon Songthiang, and Bron Prang, were found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The court sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for various terms, including 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 for attempted gang rape under Section 376D/511 IPC, 6 months of simple imprisonment for house trespass under Section 448 IPC, 2 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 for sexual harassment under Section 354A IPC, 6 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for aggravated sexual assault.

The case was registered at Nongpoh Police Station in June 2017, and the investigation was conducted by WP/UBSI E. Khardewsaw.

The chargesheet was submitted in October 2017, and the trial was completed after 9 years.
