Traffic advisory issued in NGH for ABDK Soba

Shillong, Feb 6: The Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills has issued a traffic advisory directing police authorities to regulate vehicular movement during a local religious committee scheduled to be held from February 5 to 8 at Moamari in Bajengdoba.

ABDK Soba (A•chik Baptist Dal•gipa Krima Soba) is the largest annual gathering of the Garo Baptist Church, drawing lakhs of Christian faithful from across Garo Hills, other parts of Meghalaya, Assam, and the Khasi Hills.

Held once a year over several days, the Soba features worship services, prayer meetings, teachings, and church programmes, with the highest turnout typically witnessed during the concluding Sunday service. It also serves as a platform for church leaders and delegates from different Krimas to deliberate on matters of doctrine, practices, and spiritual growth.

As per the notice, entry of all commercial heavy vehicles will be restricted from 6 am to 12 midnight between February 5 and 8 along the stretches from Berubari to Rari on NH-51, and from Kosi Gate, Bajengdoba to Gosingpita (Bajengdoba–Rongsai Road). Passenger vehicles, however, will be allowed to ply during this period.

Commercial vehicles—both heavy and light—will be permitted to operate only between 12 midnight and 6 am on the notified routes from February 5 to 8.

The order further states that no parking will be allowed along the stretches from Berubari to Rari (NH-51) and from Kosi Gate to Gosingpita from 6 am on February 5 to 6 am on February 9, except at designated parking lots and bays.
