Tura’s Favourite teacher honoured by India’s Anglo Indian Society

Tura, Oct 14: Garo Hills most prominent name in education, Tyrone D’Brass has been honoured with “The Stracey Reach For The Stars Award” by the All-India Anglo-Indian Association for his immense contribution to Education during the annual conference of the association at Ranchi on October 12th.

“We are proud to present the award to eminent educationist and founder of Sherwood School, Tura, Meghalaya, Tyrone D’Brass for the remarkable contribution he has made in the field of English Medium School Education in the state of Meghalaya and North East India over the last four decades,” stated the citation handed over by Barry O’Brien, President-in-Chief of the All India Anglo-Indian Association at a jam packed event that had the presence of Anglo-Indian teachers and educators from the best of India’s ICSE-ISC Schools.

One of the best known boarding schools from the Darjeeling Hills- Dr Graham’s Homes was also inducted into the Hall Of Fame during this special Event. Started in 1900 by Scottish Missionary John Anderson Graham, Dr Graham’s Homes was started for Anglo Indian students and over the years enrolled students from across the country, including the north east.

An alumnus of the Jesuit institution of Loyola School, Jamshedpur,
He enrolled at the Mount Hermon College of Education, Darjeeling which moulded him to grow into the teacher that he is acknowledged today.

Tyrone Patrick D’Brass started his teaching career at the well known St Edmund’s school , Shillong in 1984. The following year Tyrone joined the Assam Rifles Public School, Laitkor, Shillong where he joined Mr Bruce Beddoe and together they established Sherwood School, Tura in 1986.

Meghalaya, particularly Garo Hills is privileged to have amongst its midst one of Meghalaya’s shining educationists.
