Shillong, May 21: Following complaints from various quarters regarding the stalemate in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the Ministry of Education has decided to send a two-member team to review the functioning of the central university.

The two officials – additional secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal and director Subrat Kumar Pradhan of Department of Higher Education under the ministry – are scheduled to arrive in Shillong on Thursday for the purpose, as per a communication from the ministry to the NEHU.
The ministry has also requested the state government to provide necessary protocol and security to the officials.

On November 14 last year, the Ministry of Education constituted a two-member committee to inquire into the alleged mismanagement and administrative failures in NEHU.
The inquiry was launched following an indefinite hunger strike staged by members of NEHU Students Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) NEHU unit demanding removal of the incumbent vice-chancellor Prof PS Shukla, registrar and deputy registrar of NEHU.
