Two militants arrested for firing at security personnel in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 16: Two militants belonging to a proscribed outfit have been arrested for their alleged involvement in firing at CRPF and SSB personnel, police said on Wednesday.

The two brothers, Sheleibam Tomtin Meitei (27) and Sheleibam Jagatshyam Meitei (35), with allegiance to the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), were apprehended on Tuesday from Kongpal Kongkham in Imphal East district following intelligence inputs, they said.

Both of them were accused of being involved in firing upon SSB personnel at Lamlong Bazar on August 22 and at CRPF personnel deployed at Khonghampat on September 10. Their father, Sheleibam Yaima, was arrested for the attack on CRPF at Khonghampat, police said.

An AK-47 rifle with 43 live rounds and a nine mm pistol with three live rounds have been recovered from their possession, they added.(PTI)
