Two more murder accused arrested, mob attempts to block police

Tura, Feb 6: Two more persons accused of involvement in the murder of ACHIK organization member Dilseng M Sangma at Goalgaon village have been arrested by West Garo Hills police in an operation during which a mob of several dozen people made an attempt to prevent the detention.

The total number of arrests now stands at 10.

On February 4th night, one of the accused Anisul Sheikh (26 years) was apprehended in a Rajabala police raid from Bhaitbari.

Today, based on inputs about the presence of another accused,  Amir Hussain (47 years), in neighbouring South Salmara district of Assam, a police team from Garo Hills arrived at Magurmari weekly market under Sukchar police station. They managed to catch Hussain but a hostile crowd tried to prevent the arrest. With the support of a team of Assam police, accused was finally taken into custody.

Both the arrested persons were absconding ever since they were identified to be part of the group that attacked the ACHIK member leading to his death in January.
