Shillong, Aug 31: The United Democratic Party has expressed confidence in winning the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, with the party stepping up preparations and holding programmes ahead of the election.
Mawsynram MLA Olan Sing Suin on Monday said a meeting was held at Khliehriat on Saturday for the MP by-election. “I told the president I could not go as I had to go to my village. We are preparing and we have many programmes ahead,” he said.
The party is fielding Advocate VGK Kynta as their candidate.
Suin said, “In politics there is no meaning in being number two or three. When we contest, we contest to win.”
Responding to merger rumours, he said, “Such news sometimes heats up state politics. I saw in newspapers that I was here and there, but I was in my village. I found it amusing. I have no information about what will happen.”
He said the speculation will push the party to work harder for the bypoll.
