UDP MLA lauds Govt steps on border security

Shillong, Dec 3: The state government has taken adequate measures to maintain normalcy in Meghalaya-Assam border, said Nujorki Sungoh, UDP MLA from Mookaiaw constituency in West Jaintia Hills district.

To maintain peace, security outposts have been set up at Khatarsla, Mukroh, and Barato, the MLA told reporters on Tuesday when asked about the recent tension at Lapangap village in the district.

“We want to make sure that this kind of thing will not happen in the future,” Sungoh said, adding that the government is in talks with Assam authorities to resolve the issue.

He said sufficient personnel are deployed in the border areas and outposts to handle any untoward situation.

Deputy Chief Minister has convened meetings, and discussions are ongoing with the other side, he said, adding that there is also plan to meet the local villagers to discuss the issue further.
