Shillong, Aug 30: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has welcomed its newly admitted PhD scholars of 2025 (B) batch during an orientation programme on Saturday.
The event aimed at familiarising students with USTM’s academic culture, research expectations, and available resources, stated a press release.
Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma encouraged the scholars to pursue their research with integrity and creativity. He elucidated on the 170 patents published over the past two years.
Associate professor Dr Suktilang Majaw from Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong delivered a keynote address on research ethics.
IIT Guwahati professor Dr Sambit Mallick spoke on the democratisation of research and the critical role of questioning and ethical reasoning. “Why is India’s purchasing power lower compared to Western countries?” he asked.
USTM’s academic registrar Dr Azmol Hussain Barbhuiya provided further insights into the university’s commitment to research excellence.
