Shillong, Aug 6: The USTM fraternity on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Meghalaya governor Satyapal Malik.
In his memory, the USTM fraternity, along with Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, gathered at the university’s iconic Clock Tower for a condolence meeting.
During the gathering, heartfelt tributes were paid, and deep condolences were expressed for the passing of a statesman whose values resonated strongly with the ethos of USTM, said a statement issued by the university.

In his heartfelt reminiscences, Hoque said: “I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing, and we are all grieved by this loss. Our condolences go out to his family during this difficult time. We pray for his eternal peace. Sir Satya Pal Mallick was incredibly fond of our campus, often taking the time to call me personally. His inspiration, love, and dedication to our institution will be deeply missed. I hope his legacy inspires others with strong voices and kind hearts to visit our campus and encourage our students.”
He continued, “On 26th August 2022, in a special ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, he conferred the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service to me, in recognition of my education and social initiatives. I am particularly grateful for His approachability and kindness, which made a lasting impact, as I could meet with him without needing a special appointment. We will hold a memorial in his honor to celebrate his life and contributions. May Almighty rest him in eternal peace!”
USTM family also recalled his presence at USTM’s 8th Convocation and the special honour he bestowed upon chancellor Hoque with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service in 2022 and said his “fearless voice, unwavering commitment to democratic values, and principled leadership will continue to inspire us all. May his noble soul rest in eternal peace.”
