Shillong, Sept 29: The ongoing interview for contractual staff nurses at MCH Nongstoin was brought to a halt on Tuesday after VPP MDC from Nongstoin Dr Juristman Iawphniaw allegedly stormed into the interview hall and questioned the panel.
The interviews were being held on September 29 and 30 in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills, after completion of the written examination and shortlisting of candidates.
According to eyewitnesses, the MDC entered without intimation while the interview was underway and confronted the interview board, leaving panel members and candidates stunned and disrupting the process.
In a video that has surfaced, the MDC is heard saying, “Because we have seen in the news there should not be anything like this. I do not know why all this is happening… I don’t know why we need to have an interview because we have seen in the news that it is not fair that everyone has to be here. I do not know where you got the guts to sit in this chair, that you sit in this chair to conduct the interview.”
He then apologised to the candidate and asked her to leave the room.
Justifying his action, he further said, “I think it is very clear in the news that it is not fair for those students who got into nursing. I don’t know from where they got the authority to conduct this interview. When we went to complain to the DHS yesterday, they said they will stop it, then why are you still starting this interview.”
Claiming to act on a public mandate, he added, “I know you are from the top level but still this is the mandate of the people that they should get their rights. Stop this interview, you will not be allowed to do whatever you wish. This is West Khasi Hills district, this is Nongstoin, I am the representative of Nongstoin, I will not allow such things to happen here in my constituency. I am giving a warning, do not create a mess with all these things. You may be above me or below me but still I am for the people.”
He was later taken to the Deputy Commissioner’s chamber where he placed his verbal allegations before the officials.
