Wangala drums set to reverberate in Mumbai

Shillong, Apr 30: Wangala among various iconic traditional dance forms of the North East will be performed at the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai from May 1–4.

The four-day extravaganza of performances will brings the richness of India’s cultural landscape to the global stage, with Northeast India taking centre stage at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

Meghalaya will be on the spotlight as Wangala dance, an energetic and rhythmic tribute to the sun god, will be performed with traditional drums and costumes.

It reflects the agricultural traditions of the Garo community and promises to be a standout moment in the festival’s cultural journey.

The audiences will also witness the graceful Sattriya dance of Assam, Gumrag harvest dance, Sikkim’s lively Tamang Selo and Singhi Chham, Tripura’s Hojagiri, and Manipur’s Manipuri and Thang-ta martial art performances.

Nagaland will open the cultural segment with the soulful Tetseo Sisters performing Li folk songs in the Chokri dialect, accompanied by Nzanta, a group performance by Lotha Naga women.

Mizoram’s iconic Cheraw (bamboo dance) and Arunachal Pradesh’s elegant Kaa Kingnara Kingnari, inspired by peacock lore, will further enrich the programme.

The programme is being jointly organised by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Culture Ministry of Government of Maharashtra.
