Shillong, May 1: East Garo Hills deputy commissioner has issued a public advisory asking commuters to exercise caution while travelling along NH-127B from Williamnagar junction to Darugre, citing ongoing construction/maintenance works and prevailing rainy weather.
In the advisory, the DC warned that road conditions in the affected stretches may be hazardous due to rain.
The administration said rain has made stretches vulnerable to multiple risks.
“Road conditions may be slippery due to rain, with possible waterlogging, loose soil, and reduced visibility,” it said.
Asking motorists to take specific precautions, it said, “Motorists are advised to drive at moderate speeds, maintain safe distance from other vehicles, and strictly follow traffic signage and diversions placed at work sites. Overtaking in construction zones should be avoided.”
The DC also highlighted additional risk zones along the route, saying, “Extra caution is required near heavy machinery, sharp curves, and temporary road diversions.”
“Travellers are also advised to avoid night travel where visibility is poor and to use headlights appropriately,” it added.
For emergencies, obstruction, or safety concerns, the advisory listed contact numbers of two highway engineers – Kamlesh Kumar Pandey (9366994594) (Near Norek), and Pankaj Singh (9140579861) (Near Jamge).
“The public is requested to cooperate with authorities and adhere to safety instructions for their own safety and that of others,” the advisory said.
