Woman killed, 5 others injured after car hits them on Garo Hills road

Tura, April 30: A woman vegetable vendor lost her life, while five other women sustained injuries after a car hit them on the Kherapara to Tura road on Tuesday evening.

The incident occured at 5 PM when a Maruti Swift vehicle (ML-08F-4472) driven by the Principal of Dalu Higher Secondary School, Sentfilson B. Marak of Tura Reserve Gittim, was coming from Dalu towards Tura town.

The car ran over a vegetable seller on the road side identified Moli Ch. Marak of Santogri at Santogri Ghat NH:51. She was left grieviously injured while five other women vendors sustained minor injuries.

Given the seriousness of her injuries, she was referred to Tura Civil Hospital but lost her life on the way to hospital. The five other victims have been shifted to nearby Kherapara community CHC hospital for treatment.

Police say that the cause of the accident appears to be due to the driver dozing off while driving.
