Woman murdered by ex-boyfriend at Mairang

Shillong, Jul 1: In another case of heinous crime, a young woman was brutally murdered in front of her father by her former boyfriend at Mairang in Eastern West Khasi Hills district on Monday evening.

In the incident took place at a parking lot at Pyndengumiong, Mairang, the accused Roberto Marngar allegedly slit the throat of 24-year-old Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew while she was walking with her father.

The area was crowded when the attack took place around 5:30 pm. According to eyewitnesses, Roberto, who hails from Mawkhap Mawkynrang, came from behind and attacked the woman suddenly.

Locals quickly caught him and handed him over to the police.

The victim hailing from Shyiap Mawnai was rushed to Mairang Civil Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.

As per initial reports, accused was upset over relationship issues, but police say the exact motive is still under investigation.

A case of murder has been registered and the accused remains in custody.
