194 cases of traffic violations detected in Shillong

Shillong, April 26: In a crackdown on unsafe driving and other violations of traffic norms, city police detected 194 incidents of traffic violations during a special drive conducted in Shillong on the intervening night of April 25 and 26.

The police also imposed fines amounting to Rs 246 lakh on the violators during the coordinated operation covering three sectors — Sadar, Laitumkhrah and Lumdiengjri.

“The drive was undertaken to intensify enforcement against traffic violations and unsafe road practices through coordinated, multi-location checking, particularly during night hours when such violations are more prevalent,” police said.

The enforcement focused on detection of drunk driving, illegal modification of exhaust systems and lights, black-tinted vehicle glasses, along with document verification and other violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Over 100 personnel were deployed for the operation, with active participation of all In-Charges of Traffic Branches and Officers-in-Charge of Police Stations.

“Each naka point was supervised by Gazetted Officers, ensuring coordinated and effective enforcement across all sectors,” police said.
