25-year jail term for rape of minor in SG Hills

Tura, Sep 7: The Special POCSO Court in South Garo Hills has convicted and sentenced one Daljitsing A Sangma to rigorous imprisonment of up to 25 years for rape and aggravated sexual assault of a minor five years ago.

The case was registered at Baghmara Women Police Station in 2020 and accordingly the charge sheet was filed by the investigating officer Thayana R Marak on 25 September 2020, according to a statement.

The court of Special Judge (POCSO) Febroneous Silkam Sangma held the accused guilty and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under POCSO Act.

He was further sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under the IPC.
