3-year-old child hacked to death by uncle

Shillong, April 22: A young child aged three-and-a-half years was brutally murdered by his uncle in broad daylight at Umdang under Shallang Police Station in West Khasi Hills district.

The accused, Imphal Mawsor (50), allegedly attacked the child with a Khasi dao while he was returning from school around 1:45 PM on Wednesday, police said.

The assault that reportedly took place near the child’s residence resulted in fatal head injuries and he died on the spot, sources said.

A team from Shallang Police Station along with SDPO Mawshynrut rushed to the spot and investigated the matter while a Forensic Crime Scene Unit also examined the site and collected evidence.

The accused, who was an uncle of the victim, was arrested by police.

The body has been sent to Civil Hospital, Nongstoin for post-mortem examination.
