4 women labourers buried alive while demolishing run down house

Indore, Sept 16: Four women workers died and five others were injured when they were buried under debris while demolishing a dilapidated house in Indore district on Wednesday, a police official said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Umakant Chaudhary told PTI that the accident occurred in Sanwer town, about 35 kilometres from the district headquarters, when work was underway to demolish a dilapidated house for reconstruction.

“The workers were demolishing the walls of the dilapidated house. During this, a wall of the house, along with parts of an adjacent building, collapsed, burying the workers under the debris,” he stated.

Chaudhary said four female workers died in the incident and they were identified as Reena (30), Seema (33), Chanda (30), and Sushila (50).

The DySP said five workers, including three women, who were also buried under the debris, were rescued and admitted to different hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

He said the relief and rescue work at the site was completed and the accident was under investigation. (PTI)
