5-km run marks Akashvani Shillong’s 90th anniversary

Shillong, May 9: A 5-km run organised by Akashvani Shillong and Akashvani North Eastern Service, Shillong on Saturday marked the public broadcaster’s 90 years of service in the city.

Students, runners and fitness enthusiasts turning out in large numbers in the run flagged off at 6 AM from Akashvani Shillong premises on Bomfyle Road by Cluster Head H Diengdoh.

The 5-km route passed through DIPR, DTO, MPSC Building, Barik Point, Civil Hospital Point, City Hut Dhaba towards Little Blossom School, and continued through Hotel Polo Tower, Majestic Hotel, National People’s Party Office, and State Convention Centre before concluding at the Akashvani Shillong premises.

All participants were awarded certificates, while winners in all four categories received medals along with certificates.

Comprehensive arrangements for security, medical support, hydration facilities, and traffic management were made in coordination with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, to ensure smooth conduct of the run.

Similar events, marathons and walkathons are being organised across Akashvani’s nationwide network as part of the 90-year celebrations to ensure widespread public engagement and outreach.
