6 Bangladeshis attempting to cross into Assam apprehended at Jengjal in Garo Hills

Tura, Feb 21: West Garo Hills police have apprehended six illegal Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian facilitators attempting to cross into Assam during an operation at Jengjal junction, 30 kms from Tura, on Thursday night.

The arrests took place during checking of vehicles at Jengjal which is a crossroads junction between West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and Assam.

The six foreign nationals, including a woman, were detected to be illegal immigrants and quickly detained along with two of their indian handlers.

During questioning at the police station, they revealed about the role of another indian facilitator based in Gasuapara border area of South Garo Hills who helped in their illegal crossover from the neighbouring country to India.

The Gasuapara handler has since been arrested by South Garo Hills police. This is the third time in the last few weeks that foreign nationals from Bangladesh, fleeing the turmoil in their country, have been caught after illegally entering India from the Garo Hills sector of the international border.

The six apprehended Bangladeshi nationals hailed from five different districts of Bangladesh, including neighbouring Sherpur near Mymensing district.

The arrested foreign nationals are:

Ruhul Amin, aged 33 years, a resident of Dadon, PS Pirghasa, PO Kadir Haat, Dist. Rangpur, Bangladesh

Din Islam, 38 years,  R/o Tetlabor, PO Rupshi, PS Rupgaunj, Dist. Narayangaunj, Bangladesh

Dilwar Hussain, 27 years, R/o Gumrah, PO Rangtia, PS Zinaighati, Dist.Sherpur, Bangladesh

Smt. Sarmin Begum, 35 years, W/o Nazrul Islam, R/o Paragram, PO Ashulia, PS Baipail, Dist.Savar, Bangladesh

Sultan Mahmud, 37 years, R/o Gumrah, PO Rangtia, PS Zinaighati, Dist Sherpur, Bangladesh

Robel Kobiras, 33 years, R/o Kumroil, PO Bamail, PS Niamatpur, Dist.Naogaon, Rajshahi Division, Bangladesh.

The two Indian handlers arrested with them are Rakibul Islam (20 years), R/o Baburbhita Part-II, PO Dhamur Reserve, PS Bhaguan, Dist. Goalpara, Assam

Jelhaque Ali (28 years), R/o Baburbhita Part-II, PS Bhaguan, Goalpara Assam.

Cases are being registered against all the arrested persons under the Foreigner’s Act.
