66,000 ST students to get Central scholarship

Shilling, June 22: The state Education department has released 20% of the total amount under Umbrella Scholarship for ST Students as first instalment to all eligible beneficiaries for 2024–25 session.

This will benefit 66,000 students whose bank accounts are actively linked with Aadhaar.

The balance amount will be released in 2-3 instalments based on the schedule of release of funds from Government of India, stated an official notification.

Earlier, many students had to wait longer for the scholarship as the Central share of the Post-Matric Scholarship used to be released in 3–4 instalments, with each instalment covering only a section of the students, it said.

However, Education department has adopted this system of releasing part of the scholarship to every eligible student in every instalment.

Meanwhile, the notification clarified that this Central scholarship should not be confused with Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, which was announced during the last Budget Session.

Registrations for the CM Scholarship will commence after the formal notification of the scheme.

For the remaining 7,902 beneficiaries who have not yet received their scholarship, an SMS notification was sent on 20 June 2025 from National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to the mobile numbers registered by the students.

The students have been advised to verify and update their Aadhaar seeding/linking status with their respective banks.

Within 15 days of receipt of the SMS, beneficiaries have to comply with the Aadhaar linking requirement.

The payment files of those who have successfully updated their Aadhaar linkage will be processed through the NSP payment module.

The NSP system does not permit payment initiation before the expiry of the 15-day period following the SMS alert, it added.
