Guwahati, Oct 4: Nine cattle smugglers have been arrested and 24 cows rescued in multiple operations in Assam’s South Salmara and Dhubri districts, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The smugglers were apprehended by the South Salmara Police on Saturday night, while the cattle were rescued from Dhubri a day earlier.
In a social media post, Sarma said nine cattle smugglers were arrested during simultaneous late-night raids across the char (riverine) areas.
The chief minister, in another post, said the cattle were rescued from various locations in Dhubri.
“24 cattle and one boat recovered in multiple operations. Another strong effort to stop cattle smuggling in its tracks,” Sarma added.(PTI)
