Shillong, Aug 25: In what can be called a huge relief for local students in need of financial assistance, the state government will release Rs 93 crore under the Umbrella Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Tribe students on August 27.
More than 96,000 students will receive the scholarship amount, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Tuesday.
“I have some good news specially for the students. On August 27, which is day after tomorrow, we will be releasing the Umbrella Scholarship for our ST students,” Sangma said.
He said the amount covers 40% of the total scholarship, while the remaining 60% is being pursued with the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry.
“96,000 plus students will be receiving approximately Rs 93 crore of scholarships which is amounting to 40% of the total amount. The rest 60%, we are pursuing with the Tribal Affairs Ministry, Government of India and we are very hopeful that we will get it very soon,” the CM added.
