Smuggling attempt foiled by BSF

Shillong, Oct 2: Edible items such as sugar and garlic loaded into four vehicles and destined for smuggling across the border into Bangladesh have been intercepted by BSF troops manning the East Khasi Hills border on September 30th. Four Indian nationals have also been arrested.

According to the BSF, specific information was received about a consignment of sugar-laden vehicles heading towards Shella border via Ichhamati road. Alert troops of the 110 Battalion BSF intercepted the four vehicles and on inspection found they had no valid documents to justify the transportation of  such a large quantity of the two edible commodities,

Three vehicles were found laden with bags of sugar and another contained bags of garlic pods. The consignment was estimated to be worth Rs 10 lakh in the open market.

The four detained men along with the seized items and vehicles were handed over to land & Custom Officials at the land station in Bholaganj.
