Conrad to tour flood affected Garo Hills today

Shillong, Oct 8: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma will visit flood and landslide-hit areas of Garo Hills on Tuesday to take stock of post-disaster situation and interact with the affected people.

Altogether 15 people have died so far and 17,000 are currently taking shelter in relief camps. There are 68 camps in West Garo Hills alone.

Dalu in West Garo Hills, Hatisia Songmong in South Garo Hills and other adjoining areas are among the places on the chief minister’s itinerary.

Along with ministers, MLAs and senior government officials, he will also be visiting the next of kin of deceased victims. 

Later, he will hold a review meeting with district authorities of West and South Garo Hills to take stock of the overall damage to life and property. 

Meanwhile, the chief minister expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and ordered immediate release of ex-gratia to the next of kin. 

He also directed officials to speed up relief and rehabilitation measures in the disaster-hit areas where restoration works are under way.
