Nagaland: DGP inaugurates cyber skills centre at NPTS

Kohima, Nov 16: The NIELIT Kohima Training Centre was inaugurated on November 14 at the Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS) in Chümoukedima under the project “Empowering Police Personnel and Government Officials of NE States through IT and Cybersecurity Training.” Supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, the initiative aims to enhance IT and cybersecurity skills among over 18,600 government officials and police personnel across eight northeastern states.

Nagaland’s Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, IPS, attended the event as the special guest. In his address, he emphasized the urgent need to improve IT proficiency among lower-ranking police officers to effectively combat the rising threat of cybercrimes. Sharma noted that discussions are underway to integrate IT skill development into the police career path, ensuring officers at all levels are technologically equipped.

Er L. Lanuwabang, Director of NIELIT Kohima, provided an overview of the project, highlighting the establishment of training labs in 17 locations, including the new centre at Chümoukedima and additional labs in Kohima and Chuchuyimlang. He stressed the crucial role of police personnel in addressing cybercrime and the importance of equipping them with necessary cybersecurity skills.

The event also featured a dedicatory prayer by Rev. Dr. Hukashe Zhimomi, Executive Secretary of NPBCA, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Er. Daniel Meren, Additional Director of NIELIT Dimapur.
