Landowners can submit EoI for joint venture by mid-January 2025
Shillong, Dec 9: The state government has launched a “Land Bank” initiative with an aim to ensure participatory growth in the tourism sector by forging joint venture agreements with community groups and individual landowners.
The land to be provided under Land Bank initiative by interested landowners will significantly address the shortage of accommodation in key tourist destinations while promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
The government has already issued Expressions of Interest (EoI), inviting landowners and communities to collaborate on tourism accommodation projects. The deadline for submissions is mid-January, 2025.
“The land bank will be pivotal for expanding accommodation facilities in underserved areas such as Dawki,” said tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh.
Dawki, a popular tourist destination known for its crystal-clear water in Umngot river, has seen a surge in visitor footfall, but accommodation still remains scarce in the region along Indo-Bangla border.
“In Garo Hills, we are promoting adventure and wildlife tourism, which will attract visitors to regions that have been underdeveloped. The entire state will benefit from this initiative, and it is expected to generate an additional one lakh jobs in the next two to three years,” the minister said.
