Attack on Ampareen’s vehicle: Throwing stones not right way to express grievance: Cong

Shillong, Dec 15: The opposition Congress has said that “throwing stones… is not the right way to express grievances,” while condemning the attack on the vehicle of health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

The attack has sparked concerns about safety and security of public officials.

“Throwing stones because you are unhappy with the minister or the government is not the right way to express grievances,” said Ronnie V Lyngdoh, opposition chief whip and lone Congress MLA in the 60-member state assembly.

Urging the society to refrain from violence as a means of addressing grievances, he asserted that there are more constructive ways to resolve differences.

“Violence is not the way. We condemn any form of violence against anyone,” he said.

Unidentified miscreants pelted stones on the minister’s vehicle after Bryan Adams’ concert at JN Stadium, Polo, shattering the vehicle’s front door’s glass on Tuesday night.

The front passenger seat where Lyngdoh usually sits bore the brunt of the damage. However, she escaped unhurt as she was in another car following behind.

Meanwhile, police are investigating if the attack was any part of a larger conspiracy or an isolated incident.
